OUR REDEEMER LUTHERAN CHURCH OF LAKE CITY - WHAT WE BELIEVE

WHAT WE BELIEVE, TEACH, AND CONFESS
We believe, teach and confess that ALL of the Holy Bible is the true and inerrant word of God and is the rule and norm of our lives. It is our calling and desire to train God’s children in this true Faith that together we bear much good fruit.

We confess the 3 Ecumenical Creeds which have united the Church in doctrine and practice and kept it from error; The Apostle's Creed, the Nicene Creed and the Athanasian Creed. We adhere to the unaltered Lutheran Confessions, “The Book of Concord,” because it reflects the true Word of God as found in the Holy Bible.

We are a confessional Lutheran Church following the doctrines and practices established by the Apostles as Jesus taught them and these are documented in the Holy Scriptures. We are part of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod a conservative Christ centered, Bible based church body.
THE WORD OF GOD
Salvation is a gift from God and not a result of my works. (Ephesians 2:8-9)

God promised a Savior after the fall in the garden and all the Scriptures testify about Jesus Christ. (Genesis 3:15; John 5:39)

Jesus, the Word of God made flesh, gave His life to pay for my sins. There is no other way to salvation and the Father. (John 3:16; John 14:6)

THE HOLY SACRAMENTS
Baptism is God’s power and He marks us as citizens of His Kingdom.
In Baptism, I have died with Christ and been forgiven all my sins and been made alive with Christ and made a citizen of His Kingdom. (Romans 6:3-4)
Because of Baptism, the second death, which is the lake of fire has, no power over me. (Revelation 20:6)
Holy Communion
Jesus gives us His true body and blood to sustain us and for forgiveness of sins. (Matthew 26:26-28; 1 Corinthian 11:23-27)
Holy Communion is received worthily by the baptized repentant who believes Jesus and is truly present. It is received for condemnation for the unrepentant and unbelieving. (1 Corinthian 11:27-29)
For my flesh is true food and my blood is true drink. (John 6:55)

THE GOSPEL OF CHRIST REDISCOVERED
In 1517, Dr. Martin Luther posted 95 Thesis which identified errors in the Roman Catholic teachings and practices where the Holy Scriptures were not being followed. Not least of these errors was the sale of “Indulgences.” These documents were sold for the forgiveness
of sins. The Roman Church also taught that men needed to do go works in order to be saved.

Luther wanted to reform the church doctrines and practices to be in accordance with the Bible; we are saved by grace through faith and this is not a work of our own... (Ephesian 2:8-9)
...but that Jesus Christ completed the work of our salvation through His bitter sufferings, death and resurrection. He is the true Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. (Romans 5:9; Isaiah 53:5)
We worship one God in three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
We worship Jesus Christ as the true Son of God who was born in human flesh to atone for our sins. And who was resurrected from the dead to be our Lord and Savior and will return to judge the living and the dead.

WORSHIP
We go to God for His good gifts and worship Him in thanks and praise!
God’s Law is immutable and breaking any one of God’s Ten Commandments is punishable by eternal death in hell. (James 2:10)
All men are sinners and fall short of the glory of God. (Romans 3:23)
We can deny the Law or lie to ourselves about our sins. But God’s Holy Spirit moves us to confess our sins and to throw ourselves on the mercy of Jesus Christ, trusting in His power to forgive and His desire to save us. (Acts 2:38; Mark 16:16)
God’s Salvation is given to us:
We are baptized into God’s Kingdom and live in that Baptism faith in the power of God to save us. (1 Peter 3:21)
We confess our sins and receive God’s forgiveness as Jesus empowered His Church to forgive and retain sins. (John 20:21-23)
We receive the Word purely preached; the Law to move us to repentance and the Gospel of salvation through the power of God in Jesus Christ. (Romans 10:17)
We receive Jesus’ true body and blood and become one with Him and with the church on earth and in heaven in Holy Communion. (John 17:23)
We respond in thanks and praise for all God has done for us in Jesus Christ! (Luke 17:17)
